Congratulations to NLH Champion: Brett Murray

From the first event, the NLH Leaderboard was dominated by Norman Yeung. Day after day, event after event, Yeung added more and more points to his total and retained the point lead. As the last two events reached their respective final tables on Monday, just two players remained within reach: Ian Steinman and Brett Murray.

Unfortunately for them, Yeung was also still alive in one of those events. Steinman was competing at the final table of the $800 Main Event while both Murray and Yeung were still alive with 10 players left in the $1,100 Purple Chip Bounty Event.

Steinman was a bit of a long shot. He had to make up a 48-point deficit to overcome Yeung's total--in other words, he had to both win the Main Event and hope that neither Yeung or Murray scored a single point in their respective events. Part of the latter half of that equation came into being when Yeung was knocked out on the money bubble in ninth place, earning no additional points.

Murray had been trailing Yeung by less than a dozen points all week. To win the title of NLH Champion, he simply needed to outscore Yeung in the Purple Chip Bounty by 10½ points. Once Yeung went out on the bubble, a seventh-place finish would be sufficient, but Murray went on to win the event and leave no room for doubt who was the NLH Champion!
